Introduction


There are over 1600 parks and gardens under the management of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) across Hong Kong. Featuring green canopies and seasonal blooms all year round, such parks and gardens draw crowds of flower viewers taking pictures during flowering seasons. Among an array of flowering plants, some species are in particular popular with visitors. To facilitate members of the public to appreciate flowers in a timely manner, we will make available on this website the information on those beloved species, including Red Leaves, Purple Tabebuia, Cherry Blossoms, Yellow Pui, Camel's Foot Tree, Rhododendron, Lotus Flower, Queen Crape Myrtle and Hong Kong Orchid Tree.

Scientific Name : Nelumbo nucifera

It is an aquatic herbal plant in the family Nelumbonaceae native to tropical areas in Asia.  Grown in mud but never stained, it has been acclaimed as the nobleman in the floral kingdom, and widely admired and glorified for purity and elegance by Chinese poets and writers for generations.  Commonly known as “Furong” or “Handan” in ancient times, it bears single or double-flowered flowers normally in pink and white colours, with its flowering period from May to July in Hong Kong.

Tin Shui Wai Park

Located in the centre of the Tin Shui Wai New Town, the Park features an “Artificial Lake”, creating a harmonious ambience in the community.  There is a lotus pond of about 110 square metres in the Lake.  During hot summer months, the green lotuses in full bloom sway in wind.  All are incredibly beautiful, and visitors will enjoy a feast of floral delights.

Hong Kong Park

Taking a stroll in Hong Kong Park, a large park on Hong Kong Island, one will enjoy a magnificent view of an ornamental lake, a waterfall and a lotus pond. Occupying an area of about 110m2, the latter is renowned for vibrant blooms of lotus flowers during hot summer months, exuding a strong fragrance and creating a poetic ambience around the pond.

Kowloon Park

The park is situated in the city centre if Tsim Sha Tsui providing comprehensive dynamic facilities and passive amenities to the public. There is a lotus pond of about 80 square metres. Under the scorching sun, the green lotuses in full bloom attracting visitors for photo taking.
